There was a lovely start to the day for Barbara at Ashley House, as she headed out for a breakfast trip with Donna and Nakita.
Barbara often talks about going out for breakfast, so staff made sure that this was more than just a passing conversation and helped turn it into a reality. She was taken out in the morning to enjoy a yummy fry-up, giving her the chance to do something she had been wishing for and enjoy a change of scene at the same time.
The photo from the outing shows Barbara sitting down to her breakfast and clearly enjoying the occasion. It is a simple moment, but one that reflects the importance of listening to residents’ preferences and making space for the things that matter to them personally.
Trips like this can have a real impact on wellbeing, offering residents the opportunity to enjoy familiar pleasures, spend time out in the community and feel valued as individuals. Supporting someone to do something they have been talking about can bring comfort, enjoyment and a strong sense of personal choice.
At Ashley House, Barbara’s breakfast outing was a lovely example of person-centred care in action; thoughtful, practical and focused on what brings happiness to the individual.
